Azores - Madeira - Canary Islands

The Operational Program of Territorial Cooperation of Madeira-Azores-Canarias (POMAC) 2014-2020 is a program funded by the ERDF under the European Territorial Cooperation Objective, with a budget of 110,622,832 Euros.

The cross-border and transnational program includes the Macaronesian islands of Madeira, Azores, Canaries and three countries geographically close to these regions situated outside the territory of the EU: Cape Verde, Senegal and Mauritania. The inclusion of these countries allows for extending of the natural area of socioeconomic and cultural influence, and the cooperation possibilities.

The program is the main instrument available for the outermost regions of Spain and Portugal to provide an effective response to the common challenges faced up in terms of innovation, competitiveness, internationalization and sustainable development.

The program is structured around five main thematic areas or objectives:

• Strengthening the investigation, technological development and innovation

• Improving the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises

• Promoting the adaptation to climate change and risk prevention and management

• Preserving and protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency

• Improving the institutional capacity and efficiency of public administration.
