EUROPEAN PEACE FACILITY (EPF)

This is an off-budget instrument aimed at enhancing the European Union’s ability to prevent conflicts, build peace and strengthen international security, by enabling the financing of operational actions and support measures under the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), which have military or defence implications.

It is a step beyond the objectives and capacities of the previous mechanisms, the Athena mechanism and the African Peace Facility, and represents their replacement and expansion.

With a contribution system determined by a distribution key based on Gross National Income (GNI), the Fund has a financial limit of EUR 5.692 billion at current prices (EUR 5 billion at 2018 prices) for the period 2021-2027, with an annual limit ranging from EUR 420 million in 2021 to EUR 1.132 billion in 2027.
