The URBAN II 2000-2006 initiative affects the economic and social regeneration of cities and neighbourhoods in crisis, to encourage sustainable urban development. The objectives of the new initiative are as follows:To promote the drafting and implementation of innovative strategies for sustainable economic and social regeneration of small and medium-sized towns and cities, or neighbourhoods in difficulty in large cities; Improve and exchange know-how and experience on urban regeneration and sustainable development in the European Union.
